Functional Manual Therapy®
Functional Manual Physical Therapy® is a proven and effective group of techniques designed to decrease pain and improve range of motion and flexibility to stiff joints and muscles.
Functional Manual Therapy® (FMT) uses specific evaluation techniques to identify movement dysfunctions that contribute to pain, decreased mobility and degenerative changes. Based on the evaluative findings, specific hands on therapy techniques and movement patterns are used to restore efficient mobility of the joints and soft tissues which include muscle, nerves, organs, fascia, skin, tendons and ligaments. Once efficient mobility of the system has been restored, neuromuscular re-education is utilized to improve specific muscle initiation, strength and endurance. The final component is to improve motor control, which focuses on proper movement patterns that allow for the most efficient use of the body. This includes integration of sports specific movements, to everyday activities such as walking, lifting, active sitting, and other day to day activities.

What is the goal of Functional Manual Therapy®?
The goal of Manual Physical Therapy® is the restoration of injured tissues to efficient function. Once your joint mobility has improved, it will be much easier for you to regain efficient movement patterns and strength in order to restore optimal function.
Who will benefit?
Individuals with a variety of conditions that result in disorders of movement, strength, function or pain will benefit from FMT. We have found that FMT combined with therapeutic exercise can provide rapid pain relief and improvement in function.
